Something I confessed live on Kelly Myerson’s Bridges and Beacons podcast — a truth I rarely said out loud:
I spent years wanting to be visible, while simultaneously sabotaging every chance to be seen.

On paper, I had credentials.
In rooms, I had opinions.
But deep inside, I carried a quiet fear:
“If they really see me, they might reject me.”

That inner paradox became the birthplace of everything I teach today about personal branding, leadership identity, and making yourself truly recession-proof — not through strategy alone, but through becoming someone anchored enough to withstand uncertainty.

And that’s why this podcast episode matters to you.

How to Become Recession-Proof From the Inside Out

The Power of Becoming and Why Visibility Is an Inner Game First

Because the next evolution of your career, business, or leadership won’t come from what you add — but from who you allow yourself to become.

We Don’t Lose Momentum Because of Market Conditions —
We Lose It When We Forget Who We Are

People search for terms like: midlife reinvention, career identity crisis, how to be more confident, how to matter, how to reinvent myself.

What they’re really asking is: “Who am I now and how do I make that visible to the world?”

Kelly and I traced how my journey through identity loss — invisibility, trauma, rebuilding — became my life’s work:

Empowering Authentic Visibility.

Not fabricated visibility.
Not performance visibility.
But visibility rooted in integrity, alignment, ownership, and soul.

Because the worst kind of recession isn’t economic it is internal:

“When you outsource your worth, silence your voice, or deny your brilliance, you become the first casualty of your own life.”

Branding Begins Before Strategy — It Begins With a Decision

People assume branding starts with messaging, visuals, or positioning.
It doesn’t.

Branding starts with mindset. The moment you decide you are worthy of being seen.

For years, I didn’t make that decision.

I led as a child — bold, vocal, opinionated.
But I learned quickly that leadership came at a cost: rejection, disapproval, discomfort.

So I shrank.
I played small.
I became agreeable, digestible, invisible.

And then one day — through crisis, disruption, loss — I realized the cost of shrinking was far greater than the cost of being seen.

That was the day my recession-proofing began.

Becoming Visible Is an Inner Rebellion

Kelly asked how I help women step into who they are becoming.
Here is what I said:

“You don’t become visible when the world finally approves of you — you become visible when you approve of yourself.”

That’s what I AM BECOMING — my signature retreat — was built for.

Not a getaway.
A return-to-self.

A structured invitation to reclaim identity, dignity, and agency.
A space to whisper truths you’ve been too scared to say, until they grow loud enough to guide your life.

Because you cannot contribute your brilliance if you are at war with it.

So How Do You Make Yourself Recession-Proof?

Not by chasing relevance, but by embodying resonance.

People and companies thrive when they:

  • Know who they are
  • Act in alignment with that knowing
  • Communicate it with clarity and conviction

That is true for individuals.
And yes, it is true for corporate brands too.

A company becomes resilient the same way a human does:

  • from the inside out,
  • through values,
  • through vision,
  • through purpose,
  • through coherent identity.

Everything else is tactics.

If you are in transition — a reinvention, career shift, leadership pivot, identity fog — this episode is a mirror.

It reminds you of three things:

  1. You already carry what you’re searching for
  2. Becoming visible is an inner alignment first
  3. Your next chapter is not about earning worth, but embodying it

Listen, reflect, and notice where your own becoming is calling you forward.

The Question I’ll Leave You With:

Where are you dimming your brilliance and what would happen if you stopped?
